Cavell was educated in the Richmond Public School system.  He is a graduate of Huguenot High School; and he continued his education at the Columbia School of Broadcasting in Washington, DC and Christian Education at Richmond Christian Center Bible Institute in Richmond, VA.

Cavell is a prominent Gospel Radio and Television Announcer with thirty five (35) years in communication industry. The Gospel Music Workshop of America (Gospel Announcer’s Guild) voted Cavell, as their “Gospel Announcer of The Year” in 1989. Cavell, Served as a past host of Focus On Black Religious Life featured on CBS Channel 6,  Sunday Morning Gospel on Magic 99, Kiss 105.7 FM, Praise 104.7 FM and WGGM “Amen 820”, to name a few. Cavell is now the Host a NEW television program “WHAT WORKS RVA” on CW-Richmond, and “UpBeat!” Sunday mornings 6:30 am. On 106-5 “The Beat!”; “UpBeat!” on 92.1 “The Beat!” in Norfolk,Va and Soon! On 100.3 fm. In St. Louis, Mo.  Being in the communication industry wasn’t just a job, but ministry.

Cavell is involved in outreach programs and community affairs such as: Support for Wounded Healers (A Homicide Support Group for victim’s Families); Board of Trustee’s for The Broadcasters Hall of Fame; Faith Leaders Working with Virginia Police; and The Shepherd Center Support for Seniors Group. He is the Chairman and Founder of The Old Landmark Gospel Association.

Cavell received an Honorary Doctorate of Counseling and Communication Degree in August, 2003.

He is an Assistant Pastor of Richmond Christian Center where Dr. Steve Parson, Sr. is the Pastor.  His service in Leadership Ministry of Helps includes the areas of Pre-Marital and Marriage Counseling, Deacons Ministry and Bible Study. Dr. Phillips has served (4) area Churches in the last past Eight years that was without a Pastor. Ministry not just something he does, it’s who he is.

Cavell is a servant striving to serve God and man to the best of his ability.  He strives to complete every assignment to perfection as he believes through Christ he can do all things.  Cavell is a Master of Ceremony, Worship Leader, Counselor, Teacher and Preacher committed to carrying out the will of God through excellence and professional mannerism.  This has attributed to his success in ministry and everyday life.  His motto “Only What You Do for Christ Will Last”.
